Vaccines | Save Children by Gifting Immunity

Why is measles making a comeback?

Measles kill 246 children each day and almost 90,000 people each year, despite the existence of safe and cost-effective vaccines.   No child should die from a preventable cause. That is why UNICEF is the global leader in immunization, procuring 2.44 billion doses of vaccines for 102 countries. We reached 45 per cent of the world’s children under the age of five in 2017.

Vaccines now protect more children than ever before, but nearly 1 in 10 infants worldwide did not receive any vaccinations in 2016, according to the most recent WHO and UNICEF immunization estimates.  Donating to UNICEF’s immunization programs saves lives by giving us the ability to reach the most vulnerable children.

Did you know?

More than 1.5 million children die annually from diseases, like measles, that can be prevented by vaccination. After a child is infected, there is no specific treatment.

Your gift of $30 can help prevent 27 children from catching this highly contagious disease by providing safe and cost-effective measles vaccines.

Reasons why vaccination is necessary

  • Vaccination is one of the most successful and cost-effective ways to save children’s lives. The measles vaccine alone prevented an estimated 21.1 million deaths from 2000 to 2017, making it one of the best buys in public health.
  • Immunization saves 2-3 million lives each year. By donating to UNICEF your gift of immunization will play a central role in ending preventable child deaths and help improve child survival rates.
